The most popular way to install Gist without using Segment is to copy a Gist-generated javascript snippet into the head tag of your website. There are also Gist plugins available for Wordpress and Shopify, for users with websites powered by those platforms.
This snippet is the direct link between your Gist account and your website. Features such as live chat messenger, Gist’s opt-in form widgets, the “Visited a page” trigger found in automation, and making calls to Gist’s JavaScript API all depend on being able to communicate back to your JavaScript snippet. Gist recommends installing your JavaScript snippet even if you don’t think you will be requiring its functionality.
