How Kissmetrics works
Implementing Kissmetrics takes about the same level of effort to installing Segment for the first time. You’ll need to map out your events and user traits to be collected, decide which libraries and SDKs you need to collect that data, and install them into your product(s). Kissmetrics event and people reporting is easy to use if your events are planned following best practices and your implementation is solid, but it does take quite a bit of work to get things set up correctly.
If you’re planning on using any other analytics applications (or literally any tool that takes in event data to do its job) you should consider whether implementing native event tracking on a per tool basis is worth your or your developers’ time, given that if you’re adding any more than two tools, the event tracking and custom coding work you’re doing is going to be duplicative and redundant by nature.
Get more out of Kissmetrics with Segment
When you use Segment to send data to Kissmetrics your developers only need to learn Segment’s API and 2 simple methods: identify
, track
. Once Segment is installed your customer data will immediately flow to Kissmetrics as well as get sent to your other tools like email, chat, push, ad conversions, etc. Using Segment, there are many cases where you’ll get access to data in Kissmetrics that wouldn’t be there without custom coding if you weren’t using Segment. Most email integrations available in Segment can also push email activity back through Segment and out to integrations, including Kissmetrics. That means you’ll see Email Delivered, Opened, Clicked, etc. in your Kissmetrics reports. Automatic events also work for most live chat integrations as long as the live chat integration and Kissmetrics are both implemented via Segment.
