How Clearbit Reveal works
Clearbit Reveal works via a Clearbit API that receives identifying information from you and returns enriched user information. You send data with an IP address to the API, and it returns information about the company the IP address belongs to (if that information is available). This information can be used by your team privately for analysis, or publicly to personalize your site, such as in the case where a visitor’s IP reveals that they’re accessing your site from a particular company. Clearbit offers client-side Javascript libraries that can be used to make collecting IPs and pinging the Clearbit API easier, but implementing these libraries still requires some setup work in your code. You will still need to manually configure your own ETL processes for each tool you want to utilize the Clearbit revealed company data.
Get more out of Clearbit Reveal with Segment
When you use Clearbit Reveal via Segment, all the necessary code connections are handled for you. All you need to do is enable the Clearbit integration in your Segment settings. Segment will send data to the Clearbit Reveal API anytime an identifying IP address is in one of your Segment-tracked events. Usually this happens to aid in enriching data from a website, but it also works when you manually set the IP through server-side libraries. The company data that gets returned from Clearbit is sent back through Segment and onward to all your integrations, in the format that each your other tools expect. This means revealed company information can be sent to your email, customization, and analytics tools, and it can be stored in your Segment data warehouse for deeper analysis.
