How Pendo works
A basic implementation of Pendo only requires you to paste a Javascript snippet on the pages where you want to use the tool. You can use basic analytics, guides, surveys and polls using just the Javascript snippet as long as you don’t need to know who your users are or which account they’re a part of. If you want to target specific users or accounts, which you will if you want to trigger personalized in-app messages, that’ll require custom code. You or a developer will need to learn the Pendo Javascript API, then grab the custom user and account data from your database and send it to the API.

Get more out of Pendo with Segment
With a standard Segment implementation, you’re already sending the most important user and account information through to Segment using the identify
and group
methods. When you turn on the Pendo integration via Segment, that data will be passed along to Pendo with no additional coding. All you’ll need to do to enable the integration is to paste your API key into the Segment integration settings and the data will be transformed and recorded to Pendo correctly, automatically. Setting up Pendo this way means you can spend your time using it to optimize onboarding and survey your users rather than installing code hooks.
