How Countly works
Countly works through SDKs that need to be installed and configured in the code base of your apps. You’ll need to learn the ins and outs of Countly’s SDKs and its available methods to get up and running. The most important customization is to write code hooks into your apps for all important events so you can see them tracked in your Countly reports. Needless to say, you’ll need to consider development time necessary when choosing to install Countly natively, given the need to learn its SDKs and custom methods available.
Get more out of Countly with Segment
Segment makes it easier to get up and running with Countly. Since Countly can’t accept data directly from the Segment server, you’ll need to re-build your Segment SDKs with the Countly SDK bundled into them, but this usually only requires changing a couple of lines of code.
Once you’ve deployed the new Segment SDK with the Countly SDK bundled, all of your existing Segment events will be translated into Countly events in the background and recorded from the device in real time. Segment also maps any events with a revenue property to the format Countly expects so revenue will be available in your Countly dashboard also.
